A perennial is a plant that dies down to the ground every fall and re-grows again from the root in spring. It is best to leave their tops standing through the winter to help trap snow for insulation of the roots. Mulching at freeze up time also helps ensure survival especially if snow cover is poor and temperatures are extremely cold. Use perennials to add colour and seasonal change to your landscape. Best effects are achieved when planted in groups of 3-5.
